The most popular form of canine competition in this country is the dog show - the contest for Kennel Club registered pure-bred dogs, such as Bulldogs to be judged in comparison to it's breed standard. The Breed Standard represents the ideal conformation and characteristics for a breed. At shows, the Judge must compare each dog with the Breed Standard to find the dog nearest to that ideal picture of the breed.

The Breed Council support and promote judges development from C to A list, explanation of of the requirements at each stage is detailed below.

Judging Criteria

C List Judges
(Breed & Non-Breed Specialist)

  • To have shown interest in the breed  and owned bulldog for 5 years (for non specialist to have 5 years judging experience in any other breed)

  • All applicants must be 16 years old or over.

  • To have attended a 'B' List seminar and to have stewarded at three different shows.

  • Have the support of the Bulldog Breed Council.

A1 List Judges
(Breed Specialist & Non-Breed Specialist)

  • Persons who have been previously approved by The Kennel Club to award Challenge Certificates in the breed and have completed their first appointment.

  • Have the support of the Bulldgo breed Council.

B List Judges
(Breed Specialist)

  • To have a minimum of fiver [5] years experience owning and exhibiting Bulldogs.

  • To have stewarded at three different shows

  • To have judged a minimum of nine [9] classes in the breed at Open Shows, Championship Shows without Challenge Certificates or Breed Limit Shows (Kennel Club Licensed Events).

  • To have judged twenty-seven [27] dogs in the breed at Open Shows, Championship shows without Challenge Certificates or Breed Limit Shows (Kennel Club Licensed Events).

  • To have attended at least one [1] Bulldog Breed Specific Judging Seminars run in accordance with the relevant Kennel Club Code of Best Practice and passed any examination or assessment set.

  • Have the support of the Bulldog Breed Council.

B List Judges
(Non-Breed Specialist)

  • To have a minimum of fiver [5] years judging experience in any one breed.

  • To have stewarded at three different shows

  • To have judged a minimum of twenty-one [21] classes of Bulldogs at Open Shows, Championship Shows without Challenge Certificates or Breed Limit shows (Kennel Club Licensed Events).

  • To have judged a minimum of sixty three [63] Bulldogs at Open Shows, Championship Shows without Challenge Certificates or Breed Limit shows (Kennel Club Licensed Events).

  • To have attended at least one [1] Bulldog Breed Specific Judging Seminar run in accordance with the relevant Kennel Club Code of Best Practice and passed any examination or assessment set.

  • Have the support of the Bulldog Breed Council.

A2 List Judges
(Breed Specialist & Non-Breed Specialist)

  • Persons who fulfil all the requirements of the A3 List and who have been assessed in accordance with The Kennel Club requirements and accepted by The Kennel Club for inclusion on the A2 list.

  • Have the support of the Bulldog Breed Council.

A3 List Judges
(Breed Specialist)

  • Minimum 7 years judging experience in the breed .

  • To have judged a minimum of 180 dogs .

  • To have attended and passed Rules and Regulations on judging and procedure seminar

  • To have attended a conformation and movement seminar .

  • To have attended and passed a 50 points of the dog seminar .

  • To have attended and passed at least one breed specific seminar .

  • To have owned or bred at least 3 dogs when they first gained entry to the stud book .

  • To have stewarded at 12 shows

Roll of Honour

A1 qualified judges who have retired, but who may be available to fulfil the function of referee if asked.
